Janet Vera Chessell

Janet passed away at Chester Lodge Nursing Home on Monday 16th June 2025, aged 80 years.

A Dearly Loved Mum to Paul and Karen. Mother-in-Law to Lisa and Matt. Adored ‘Gran Jans’ to Siobhan, Rachel, Louise, Rebekah, Kiya and Ross. Cherished Great-Grandmother to Little Lou, Tyler, Harry, Jensen and Karson.

Janet will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

Funeral Service and Committal to take place on Friday 4th July 2025 at 12 Noon at Chester Crematorium.

Some people come into your life and make it better just by being themselves, Gran was one of those people.

She treated me like one of her own, with kindness, warmth, and that special way she had of making everyone feel welcome. She had a heart big enough for everyone, and I’ll never forget the times she called me pet or flower, little words, but they meant the world coming from her.

She had a gift for turning ordinary moments into memories: a chat over a cuppa, a cheeky Chinese she insisted on buying, a laugh that could brighten your whole week. Being around Janet felt like home and that’s not something you come across often.

She was gentle, sharp, funny, and full of love. And even though she’s no longer here in person, I know that love carries on, in the people she cared for, in the memories we shared and in the way she made us feel.

I’ll always be grateful for her kindness and the way she folded me into her world like family. Rest easy, Gran and thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Michael x

From the very first day of meeting Jan she made me feel like part of her family. Spending many years going to Chester taking Siobhan down to Gran Jan’s for our holidays, then later on taking little Lou and almost every visit there was a visit to the zoo.
Jan was the kindest, funniest and most generous soul you could ever meet.
To me she will eternally 39.
Rest in peace Jan
Gillian xx

From one Soldier to Another,
Your Duty is Done,
Rest in Peace Jan,
With My Respect,
I Salute You.

Can’t believe you are gone. Some days it does not feel real. I love you more than any words can express. I will miss you so much, I believe you are with Mum, Dad and Wlan and that makes me happy for you. Look over me and send guidance from above, help me make big decisions I will always ask myself “What would Mark do”….. WWMD so listen out for that and send me signs. Roscoe has just this second jumped up and licked my face… It has made me laugh and I hope this was a little sign from you to cheer me up. Sending a million kisses to you and more. xxxx

CoUNT Pith Helmet, WMF and Pedro have had their last earthly adventure. I promise I will take the phone off of Mother and not let her cut her own fringe. And I promise to continue to look after our boy. From Wicked- “You’ll be with me like a handprint on my heart. And now whatever way our stories end – I know you have re written mine my being my friend”

Do not let your hearts be troubled. We never lose those we love & give to God. They walk beside us every day, unseen, but always near, still loved & missed every day.
I wish you & family God’s peace, the Lord will bless you always and quiet you with His love. Much love, Bernicex

Every time I think of Mark I smile, and I cannot think of a better legacy than that.
We spent so many happy times together, so many laughs and also many tears, mainly due to the laughter. It was a privilege to have known him.

Mark, you gave me faith in people and how to live life again so many good times in Chester and Liverpool and so many laughs you’ve been a very good friend. I think you mate I’ll miss you very much. God bless.

Well where to start! From Vigo to Valencia and UK . So many happy memories… almost all contained alcohol. Memories and laughter will never be forgotten…always in my heart… just one look and the laughter exploded…all my love… and my condolences to all family and friends of Mark. He just ticked every box!

Mark was a real diamond! He was so full of fun and life that it is hard to believe that he is gone. I was lucky enough to join Mark and Christina for breakfast in Gale’s less than a month ago and he was so positive and brave. His infectious laughter is going to be sadly missed by all of his friends and especially in the Albion. Rest in peace my friend.

I only had the privilege of knowing Mark for a few short years, but every time we spent together was truly memorable—filled with fun, laughter, and thoughtful conversations. He had such a vibrant spirit and a contagious outlook on life that made every moment enjoyable and meaningful. We were definitely on the same page when it came to love, life, and laughter.

What always stood out to me was the way he loved Jane—so openly, so deeply, and so sweetly. The bond they shared was something beautiful to witness. It’s comforting to know that Mark is now reunited with loved ones, and I have no doubt he’s spreading that same joy and exuberance upstairs at the Pearly Gates x. He was truly someone special, and he’ll be remembered with a smile and a tear. X

This is hard. Because I can’t put into words what Mark meant to us all. One thing I do know is that he absolutely knew how loved he was, by all his friends and family. I will miss everything about him. I can’t believe it’s real, I have been in denial that his time could be so short. Mark, I will miss your honest advice, the genuine love and interest you showed in our children’s lives and how you enjoyed the wild streak in Sylvie, the laughter, your wicked humour, interesting facts and hearing about the new restaurants you’d found, those gorgeous all encompassing hugs, how excited you would get and the way you’d dance on the spot. I’ll miss hearing about your family and what all your closest friends are up to. You cared so deeply for everyone. I’m sad we didn’t get to fulfill all those planned walks and trips – the last couple of years have been challenging, but you were there by our side through it all, both physically or by the power of tech. It felt like the world stopped a week ago, but I know that your heart and soul was always with Wlan and now you are at peace together. Thank you for everything. I am not sure how to adult without you but I will do it with a sparkle of Mark. Always in my heart x I love you x

My dear friend Mark, we’ve been through so much together, what can I say. You were my best friend. I knew you for 30 years over half my life. We had so much fun, shed some tears and had so many adventures together all over the world. I’m really going to miss you but will treasure our friendship forever. Love Stuart xx

My treasured memory of Mark was when he worked on the ships & he organised a meal on board ship when they docked in Liverpool. Wow…how much Mark was respected on board that ship was truly remarkable! The evening was the best.
Shows the person Mark was an absolute gentleman.

You will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Another bright star now twinkles when we look above. You’ve begun your new journey in heaven …..keep the fun going up there. Your last loving big hug will always be remembered in our hearts. Shine bright like the diamond you are.
Goodbyes are not forever x

Truly the best friend a girl could have “Our Mark”. I’m going to miss you so much. You have left and taken a pint sized piece of my heart with you. I hope the bar up there is set up and fully stocked ready for when the rest of us catch up with you. Rest in peace my darling.

It’s surreal to think of the world without you in it Mark. It’s a poorer place. You were the best of Jean and John and I know they have their arms around you up there along with your beloved Wlan. Sleep tight beautiful man x

Mark, you were such a fun and caring person. I have happy memories of a weekend spent with you, Stu and Abigail. You showed us the sights of London and, of course, a lovely champagne bar.
You will always be in my thoughts.
Love Veronica.

Mark you lit up a room as soon as you entered it. You were truly one of the best and we can’t believe you are gone. Kind, thoughtful and so much fun is a true description of you. We know you are with your beloved Wlan and your much loved Mum and Dad – Jean and John. Rest easy beautiful man. Julie and Steve

I knew Mark through his friend of many years Stuart.
Everytime I saw him he made me laugh! He was a great character and a real loss to the world.
RIP Mark you have left us too soon.

Mark, what a privilege knowing you for the past four years has been. Our life is infinitely better with you in it. We just wish we’d had more time with you but we know you’re at peace and with your Wlan now. Thank you for your sage advice, laughs and friendship. We’ll always say WWMD?. Who will I wind Christina up with now? Go well, my friend! Love, always.

To know him was to love him and if lucky enough to be loved in return.

Markie , I can’t believe we are not going to see you again . Your fabulous smile and contagious laugh will be missed so much . I will miss our dancing in the living room to Taylor Swift until 4 in the morning and doing it all again the next day ! You were the brother I always wanted . You have left a big whole in our hearts but it makes me happy to know you are with Wlan who you missed so much . The brightest star in the sky ⭐️ . Love you forever boyfriend ❤️ xxx

What to say about Mark Shaw? If you are here you know how amazing he was. I met Mark on the day he met Wlan(my nephew). Wlan used to live with me at the time. I was there from day one to the last! I can assure you I never seen so much love like those two had for each other.Mark thank you for all the good memories, for everything you done for Wlan and his family. Now I have two 😇😇 watching me from up there.RIP my darling!!Tia Ana.

So many wonderful memories Our Mark, and every single one is full of your kindness, intelligence, wit, generosity, both of pocket and of spirit, and your inexhaustible, wicked sense of humour, not to mention the alcohol and the dancing. Hope it’s a free bar up there and the cocktails are large. We are so very grateful to have had you in our lives and we will miss you so much, until we meet again. Love you always xx

For Mark

I still think you are around the corner, I still think you will come into the Albion causing fun and chaos in equal measure. Always looking gorgeous “it’s only Markies” your own: “hello sexy lady!” and I think “here we go – his eye sight is worse or he is after something” !!!

I won’t stop thinking you are around the corner and wishing we could have one more hug and a laugh. You certainly brightened up my own and other people’s lives – as witnessed by your friends and family’s deep-felt loss. You had the ability to gauge whether comforting words or humour were required so keep on doing it and you will have loads more devoted followers!!

Miss you more than words can say.

Christina Mercer
Albion Inn

Mark, our beloved nephew, our surrogate son.

It’s so hard to believe that we will never see your happy, smiley face again and never again receive one of those biggest and bestest hugs of anyone we know.

We will be forever grateful to you for reading the eulogy for our “beautiful boy” Andrew, your cousin. You delivered it just right as we knew you would, putting your own stamp and humour on it.

You were so intelligent and worldly wise. If we ever needed to know about a new restaurant or a place to visit, then it would be “just ask our Mark, he will know!” Who needs Google when you have MARK SHAW.

Mark, you loved life with a passion and it is so unfair that it has been cruelly taken from you. Our only comfort is that you are reunited  with your darling husband WLAN who you missed so so much.

This world is a poorer place without you Mark and I promise to do as you asked of me on 7th June which was “Look after Our Jane for me.”

    Love you son

Auntie Jo (mum) and Uncle Harry.

Dear Mark.
I have lovely memories from the time we spent in Spain with you and Wlan, the weekend I spent with you and Wlan after you moved back to Prescott.
My second visit to Liverpool at the Cavern Club. I remember how pleased you were when my favorite Beatles song was played – While my guitar gently weeps.
We had so much fun together.
Also, I’ll always treasure the time we spent in London.
You’ll be sadly missed but never forgotten.
I know you’re happy now with my beloved nephew Wlan.
Love you forever.
Tia Rosi

Hello darling,

I’m going to think of you every single day for the rest of our lives. The wind blew a huge gust of wind into my veil for some wedding photos and I heard you say GET IT GIRLFRIEND and Wlan shouting NO PAPARAZZI and I just know it’s going to be the perfect shot.

We are so lucky to have loved, and been loved by you. Our third parent, confidant, person to ground us, build us up, remind us exactly what we’re made of. It is ridiculous that we’re writing you this message now. Thinking of your entire gorgeous family who miss you even more than us somehow – comforted only by the fact you’re now in the tightest Brazilian hug with little one.

Can’t and won’t ever stop loving you. So lucky to have had you for 30 years and to have you shape daddy for the many many years you were ultimate BFF’s (thank god you did). Don’t stop dancing, laughing, and living up there. Cheers with a caipirinha from down here, but they’ll never taste as sweet xxxxx

Funny, unique, generous and bubbly… so many words I could use to describe Mark and they’d all fit. Nothing though can possibly describe his loss to me. I can say that on this earth we have both said everything that we need to say to each other. My heart goes out to Jane and Joe. See you in the next life big fella. You’ve lived your best life and I’m so glad I was there to be a part of it.
Love Perry

Mark

Good night and God bless our much loved friend Mark
Loved from the first day you came to Forest Court until the last
Christine and Matt

Dear Mark,

It’s so hard to find the words to express how deeply you’ve influenced me and helped shape the man I am today. You were the perfect Godfather, someone I could talk to, confide in, and share uncontrollably hilarious times with, bar-hopping and restaurant-hopping up and down England.
You gave me a love for Liverpool that will stay with me forever.

Who knows who’s going to keep Perry in check now?

I love you so much. I’ll miss you eternally.

RIP darling Mark, it was such an honour to have you as part of our family, you and Wlan will Forever be missed and Forever be in our memories, close to our heart.
We pray the Holy Spirit comforts your family and friends, specially your beloved sister Jane. Xx

Mark dawleeeen, what are we going to do without you, your brilliance and wickedness- mainly through your ‘evil twin brother, Tarquin’, who was always blamed for your more naughty antics. From the moment you marched into my office and sat down, made yourself comfortable and said ‘Hi I’m Mark Shaw’, you had me under your spell. I will miss you for the rest of my days but will think of you and your lovely Wlan propping up the heavenly bar with your everlasting ABFs. Love you xxx

Mark you were a true legend with your mischievous sense of humour and kind soul the laughter we shared, you are in my heart always my lovely friend miss you Emma ♥️

Dearest Marky Mark how I miss our swim chats ! Putting the world to rights and teasing Bob to bits. Truly a polymath and some of the accents you pulled off still make me giggle. I know you wanted us to wear what we normally had on when we went to meet you at your life celebration but that would have meant turning up in my trunks ! Which I think you would have loved but I wasn’t so keen on. It was a privilege to have known you even for such a short time, sleep tight mate until we meet again.

RIP Sarah gone but never forgotten. YNWA xxx

Sweet dreams Sarah will always remember you with smiles and laughter. Thinking of my nephew Peter and Gill /boys

Heartbreaking news, she was always a genuine lovely soul throughout school years. Always remembered her for the best comedic timing with her jokes. Sending all my love to her family and friends. Praying for you all ✨❤️ Gone but never forgotten Sarah Xxxxx

Sarah, thank you for all the laughs and memories from school. You were one of a kind and you made such an impact on so many of us. You will never be forgotten xx

Sarah you was one of kind, always going out your way to help everyone. Every time we were out you never failed to have everyone laughing and happy. You was my best mate growing up and I have the best memories that will last forever, I can’t remember any bad memories and that is the same for every person that ever met you. You will be deeply missed by everyone and we will meet again my friend ! Gone but never forgotten You’ll never walk Alone mate until we meet again x

Sending my condolences to Sarah’s family and friends. I worked with Sarah for a couple of years and remember her for her great sense of humour, always making everyone laugh. Shine bright Sarah xx

Sarah’s laugh was something you felt as much as you heard, bright, infectious, and utterly unstoppable. It had a way of lighting up the room and lifting everyone’s spirits, even from a distance. There was no one better I would fully live commentate a Liverpool game for over Facebook messenger whilst Sarah was on her way to New York so she wouldn’t miss the game. Plus my favourite Sarah story of when she accidentally picked up someone else’s swimming costume in IceLand. Then there was Cluedo. We never really knew what we were doing, and Sarah absolutely didn’t understand the rules—but that was part of the charm. Her bewilderment, mixed with laughter, turned a simple board game into a memory I’ll always treasure. Sarah was truly one of a kind—a beautiful soul whose kindness, humour, and warmth touched everyone lucky enough to know her. She left this world far too soon, and the space she’s left behind is deep. I feel grateful to have known her, and I hope you know how deeply she is missed. All my love always Sarah, Em xxxxx

I was in Sarah’s form in school from Years 7-11. She was such a beautiful soul; kind, caring, funny and clever. Thank you for making me finally understand algebra! 🤣 My thoughts and prayers are with all of her family & friends. May you rest in peace Sarah. Xx

I couldn’t believe the news of your passing Sarah. From having to teach us all how to pronounce and spell your surname in year 7 to rolling your eyes in year 11 when the teachers still couldn’t. You were a force to be reckoned with, your laughter would fill the room, but most importantly you were a fiercely loyal friend, even as a child. Nothing was ever too much to ask, even us wanting to give you a full glam makeover at lunch time (much to your disgust) and your daily failed attempts at trying to help me understand maths. I hope heaven is as joyous as our history lessons with the infamous Nadin many moons ago, sleep tight and thank you for so many happy school memories x

She touched many lives and her memory will live on in every laugh, every clever remark, and every moment she made a little brighter.

My heart goes out to all who loved her. May you find some comfort in the joy she brought while she was here, and in knowing how deeply she will always be missed.

I went to school with Sarah and she was such a kind and loyal person. My thoughts are with friends and family during this heartbreaking time

Saz, what will we do without you.
Our hearts are broken but I hope you are resting peacefully my girl.
You know how deeply me and Katie cared for you.

From euros 22, and camping, to sleepovers and a Chinese delight, I will cherish our memories forever. There wasn’t an occasion when you didn’t have us in fits of laughter. The funniest most generous soul.

Peter, Gill, Chaz, and all the family, I am thinking of you during this sad time and sending all the love to you. Sarah did you all proud and we will remember her beautiful soul forever.

I met Sarah a year ago playing 5-a-side football, and she was one of the most lovely, caring, outgoing, and funny people to be around. We didn’t know each other for long, but she left a lasting impression on everyone, she was truly beautiful inside and out. My thoughts are with all of Sarah’s family and friends during this difficult time. Rest easy, Sarah. xx

We were so shocked to hear this incredibly sad news.

Sending our deepest sympathy to all of the family.

Sarah worked with us at Morris & Co for 5 years and she had so many friends here. She was always such a delight to work with having such a funny and bubbly personality.

Thinking of you all.

I have no words so very missed for her humour, smiley face and infectious laugh. so generous with your time for everyone and had the kindest heart . RIP Sarah xxxx

Sarah was more than just my accountant — she was a source of calm in the chaos. I’ve never felt so secure when it came to my taxes 😆 she was always on it, no matter what. I’d be panicking, stressed out, but five minutes with Sarah and it felt like all my problems disappeared.

She probably never knew this, but I used to tell everyone how boss my accountant was — not just in her work, but as a person. She was truly one of a kind, and I’ll never forget the tough times she helped me through.

The world has lost a genuinely special person, and my heart goes out to her family. She’ll be up there with Jota — because you’ll never walk alone!

I’ve struggled to write anything as I still cannot believe it! You’re my absolute best friend and I feel so lost without you saz, miss speaking to you daily, FaceTiming, going on fun days out and random trips shopping or to the lisbon… You just understood me and I got you, you was legit one of the best people I have ever met in my life. So funny with your witty sense of humour or your one liners/gifs which I absolutely miss. Who’s going to call me a ‘tit’ now ? Or take the piss out of me when I can’t work out the discount on items my little accountant “Katie go on what’s that price now if it’s 17%”.
We have so many memories for life I’ll hold with me forever football, gym plans/sessions, euros, BBQ’s & camping or your facts about popcorn and many others, I loved sharing every moment with you as you are everything and more you made my life so much brighter!
You’re honestly the best person and I’m honestly so gutted you’re not here to see how many hearts are broken, you’ve left a massive hole in my heart and my life.
Thinking of Gill, Peter, Chaz and all the family at this sad time & sending so much love to you all.
Have a boogie with my mum up there be good though cheeky, no naughty innuendos to my mother ok!!
This is not a goodbye it’s a see you soon save me a seat with the cool ones up there.
I love you saz so much and I’ll never believe this is real missing you so much right now love you bud your Kabes xxxxx

So sorry and shocked to hear of Sarah’s passing. She will be truly missed. I worked with Sarah at Moco some years ago, she was always smiling and always made us laugh. Sending sincere condolences to the family xx

Saz, some of my best memories are with you and I’ll always giggle when I think about them, your laugh and how funny you we found the silly things. Thank you for being my friend and bringing light into my life.
Thinking of everyone that was lucky enough to have met Sarah and how heartbroken everyone must be I’m sending so much love. Love you forever saz! Love from Lil xxxx

I had the privilege of going to school with Sarah. She was truly a joy to be around – always ready to make people laugh or offer comfort when someone was feeling down. I’ll always remember the way she used to tease me about our Everton/Liverpool rivalry and our maths and history lessons. Sending all my love to Sarah’s family and friends during this difficult time. She will be deeply missed.

Sarah you touched the lives of many in more ways than you knew. You were a friend to everyone and always the joy in the room, your witty humor was always on point and you will be very missed. Gone far too soon! Rest in peace xx

Saz, I can’t find the words to explain how much I am going to miss you. I will cherish the many memories we have together, from Heygarth United as 13 year old’s, the weekly pizza nights as teenagers through to the Kitchen Band of Christmas 2024. I chose the best when I asked you to be Harpers Godmother. Life without you will never be the same. Get some rest now Saz, I love you mate xxxx

Had the privilege of going to school with Sarah and spending a lot of time with her in our later school years. Her humour and wit was always something I loved along with her always saying what everyone was thinking. The world has lost such a lovely person and my thoughts are with everyone affected by this sad news. Rest in Peace Saz xxxxx

As many others amongst these posts, I also had the privilege of meeting Sarah in High School. Everything about her was absolutely infectious – her smile, her laughter, her kindness, her entire aura. If someone was to ask me to describe Sarah in a sentence, I would say: she was effortlessly and unapologetically herself. So true and clear about who she was as a person and because of this she carried a natural ease that made everyone around her feel so comfortable. We all shared so many laugh-until-you-cry moments with Sarah, and I hope she always knew how valuable she was to all of our school years. I hope she’s laughing now, just as she always did. Take care, Sarah. x

Sarah always had time for everyone. In work I would listen to her spend ages explaining things to her clients and colleagues. She cared so much I just wish she had known how much we all cared for her.
She will also be remembered for her great sense of humour and thoughtfulness. I miss her daily banter !
Thinking about her family and friends at what must be a heartbreaking time for them all.
Gone from all our lives far too soon. Rest in peace Sarah .. miss you x

It’s heartbreaking just trying to find the words… You were such a kind funny person and had so much time and patience for other people. I’m glad we all got to spends some fun times together recently, the golf day, bowling, radio one weekend… all having the best time! And not forgetting the cinema dates with the work girls! I’ll never forget the time in work when I took off my heels to show you just how small I was, and my big toe was poking out of the whole in my tights! We laughed and laughed, it was so funny at the time!
So many people cared about you Sarah, I hope you knew that.
thank you for the memories, the friendship and giggles. We miss you. . Be at peace now and sleep tight beautiful girl xx

Never a dull moment when you were around Sarah. Full of fun and laughter. I will miss you so much. The world has lost a beautiful soul. You are one in a million lady. Rest now lovely Saz xxx

It’s still so hard to comprehend that this beautiful kind soul is being laid to rest later today..😘💔💔💔💔💔

Sarah, you literally oozed fun, friendship and fantastic humour in people’s lives and that was second to none, I really don’t think anyone would ever disagree!! 😊☺️🤪

You were a person that made such a difference in people’s lives and that is a quality not many people possess.
❤️
I personally, can never thank you enough for being such a fabulous friend, colleague and support to Jack in his work journey. 😘

It truly was a pleasure getting to know you more & more. 🥰

Without your kindness and support Jack wouldn’t be where he is today, for that we both cannot thank you enough. 😘

Goodnight & God bless lovely, til we meet again!! xx 😘😢

I met Sarah when a bunch of strangers were joined together to form the eponymous “Unatheltico Madrid FC” for women’s 5-aside in Chester. I instantly bonded with Sarah – it was hard not to be won over by her unrivalled wit, down-to-earth nature and comedic timing. She was always the queen of our WhatsApp group providing belly laughs regularly. She always had a funny story to share and her laugh was contagious.

I was truly shocked when I heard the news. I’m devastated for her friends and family.

Sarah I only knew you a short while on this earth but I’m so glad I was lucky enough to meet you.

I can’t believe I’m going to your funeral today. We’ve lost such a special person and you are loved so much.

Rest in peace, Kate xxxxxx

Sarah, I am still struggling to comprehend a world without your infectious laughter and friendship. It was always great fun to catch up with you, your bubbly and generous spirit shone through in all that you did. You will be so missed by all your family and friends, all my love. Rest in peace xxx

Today was such an emotional day watching you being laid to rest Sarah. It was a privilege to have known you. You’re in my thoughts every day. Driving to work knowing I’ll never see you again is something I don’t think I’ll be able to process. There wasn’t a day where you didn’t make us laugh in the office. I hope you can see how loved you are and you’re now at peace. Take it easy ❤️
